On this day, the twenty-first of June, 1694, in the
afternoon, in the city of Bayonne, before me, the undersigned Notary Royal, in
the presence of the witnesses named below, appeared before me in person and
confirmed his identity, Sieur Charles Maynadier, surgeon by profession, resident
of this city [Bayonne], who has, of his own free will, appointed and constituted
Sieur Jean Delgrès, one of the sergeants of a part of the city, his proxy, and
granted to him power of attorney, expressly and irrevocably, with power to
substitute a proxy or attorney, …[probably to lay charges, to sign all
documents both judicial and extrajudicial] …to elect a domicile…[probably
to arbitrate, compromise and accommodate the case, in whatever way the said
proxy (Delgrès) finds best for the benefit of the said grantor (Maynadier)] on
behalf of and in the name of the said Sieur [Maynadier] during his absence at
sea in the service of the King, as follows:
to pursue, in law or otherwise, Sieur François Tournal, also
a surgeon, to return to him all the chests which were in the vessel of the King
named L’Aigle which was in the port of this city, which the said Sieur
Tournal took and disposed of, after the grantor [Maynadier] was obliged to leave
the said vessel on account of illness. All the chests are mentioned in [a
memorandum? a list?] which he has submitted to the said Sieur Delgrès, to whom
he has also paid the sum of 48 livres, 12 sols, and 6 deniers, which was paid
as discharge to a Portuguese merchant following a ….
He has also submitted to the said Sieur Delgrès [a demand?]
for the return to him of two chests: one of medicines, and one containing
clothing and linens, belonging to the said Sieur Maynadier, grantor, which the
said Sieur Tournal also removed to La Rochelle, by virtue of the said power,
which the said Sieur the grantor has delivered to him in this city. And finally,
he gives power to the said Sieur Delgrès to pursue Sieur Pierre Lacoste, citizen
and master surgeon of this city, to render to him an account of the sum which he
has received from the power of Sieur Dominique de Béhic, citizen and merchant,
