The fifth day of the month of December 1694, the first [funeral] service was
held for Joannis Detcheverry, news having come of his death in the service of
His Majesty aboard the Gaillard, and present in the cortege were Pierre
Detcheverry his father and Sieur Pierre Diron, Royal Sergeant, of whom
Detcheverry, when called upon to sign, declared he did not know how.
