Dr. Francis LeBaron |
|
On the track of
the Catholic James II...
FACTS:
In 1659/60, James II Duke of York, married secretly Anne Hyde. They are Protestants at this time.
On April 30th, 1662, James II and Anne Hyde had a daughter. They named her Mary II. She will became Queen of England, Ireland and Scotland, the well known "Queen Mary".
James was the cousin and ally of the Roman Catholic King of France, Louis XIV.
In 1668/69, James II and Anne Hyde secretly converted to Catholicism.
In 1668, Francis LeBaron was supposed to be born and educated in an adoptive Roman Catholic family in Bordeaux.
In 1671, Anne Hyde died.
In 1673, James II married the devout Catholic Mary of Modena.
On November 4th, 1677, Mary II (15 years old) married the Protestant William III, Prince of Orange.
From 1685 to 1688, James II was King of England, Ireland and Scotland.
In 1688, due to his Catholic faith, James was deposed. He was the last Roman Catholic monarch to reign over the Kingdoms of England, Ireland and Scotland. The Protestant William III, husband of his daughter Mary, became King of England, Ireland and Scotland. The Royal couple was well known as "William and Mary".
On June 10th, 1688, James II and Mary of Modena had a son... he was named...
James, Francis, Edward
In 1690, at the battle of the Boyne, in Ireland, James II was defeated by William III. Following this battle, James II fled to France where he was hosted by his cousin, the Catholic King Louis XIV, at the castle of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (more).
The Duc de Gramont, Governor of Bayonne in the Basque Country used to stay at the castle of Saint-Germain-en-Laye since the "Fronde" in 1651 (more).
In 1692, the Duc de Gramont participated (in shares) in the fitting-out of the Aigle as a privateer (more).
On May 1694, the Aigle sailed from Bayonne to Newfoundland with a stop en route at La Rochelle.
On June 1694, a large squadron of 22 vessels and 1500 men sailed from Nantes to attack Jamaica in West Indies. A part of the crew is made of Jacobites "Wild Geese" (more).
On May 23, 1696 the 1st son of Francis LeBaron was born and named James.
Why this 1st son was not named Francis, as his father, as usual in France at this time ?On December 26, 1698 the 2nd son of Francis LeBaron was born and named Lazarus.
On June 13, 1701 the 3rd son of Francis LeBaron was born and named Francis.
On August 8, 1704 Francis LeBaron died and we can read on his tombstone "FRANCIS LE.BARRAN" (instead of LEBARON). Could it be a "writing error" ?
BARRAN, is a first name and last name from Ireland.
