Francis bought a share in the privateer L'Aigle
From mid 1691 to mid 1692, the 300 tons frigate Aigle was built:
On August 25, 1692, (AD64 3E4421 310-313/1030) before Sieur Moureau, Notary Royal in the city of Bayonne, Messire Louis Bazin de Beson acting for the King Louis XIV at the Admiralty of Bordeaux, registered the commissioning of the Aigle as the following :
13 861 livres; King Louis XIV
3 000 livres; Messire Antoine Charles IV Duc de Gramont (Governor of Bayonne)
1 500 livres; Messire Claude Louis Hiacinte de Laboulaye (Counselor to the King in Bayonne)
500 livres; Messire Charles de Planque (Lieutenant of the King in Bayonne)
to make war as a privateer (more) under command of Sieur Durtubie (more).
On December 10, 1692, (AD64 B8700 24-26/97) Captain Louis de Harismendy (more) was authorized to command and arm the Aigle as a privateer by Louis Alexandre de Bourbon, Admiral of the French Navy (more).
On June 27, 1693, (AD64 B8701 54-55/103) Captain Joannis de Suigaraychipy Croisic (more) was authorized to command and arm the Aigle as a privateer by Louis Alexandre de Bourbon, Admiral of the French Navy.
On July 1693, the Aigle under command of Captain Croisic took part in the battle of Bear Bay in Spitsbergen (more).
On May 26, 1694, the Aigle under command of Croisic sailed from the coast of France to Newfoundland.
Speculation: Sometime between January 1693 and May 1694, Francis LeBaron bought a share in the Aigle from de Gramont, or de Laboulaye, or de Planque.
